Stephanie, a Marine biology M.S. student, found herself drawn to the program after a professor recommended her for a lab assistant position. In this position, she discovered an interest in marine biology, and found a way to combine it with her other area of interest: microbiology.

Area of Study: The conditions in which life thrives and adapts

A biology study, Muhammad credits being more interested in people than objects as his motivation for entering the scientific field. Muhammad believes a familiarity and understanding of the world around us can help humans better maintain their population.

Major: MS Marine Biology

Area of Focus: Biofilms and colonizer communities

Kenny knew from an early age that he wanted to be a scientist. He credits his interest in marine science to his grandparents, who took him all over the world: from the Baltimore Zoo to the Galapagos Islands.

Area of study: Biofilms

Abhi originally studied urban forestry, but felt it was not the best fit for him. Inspired by the enthusiasm of an undergraduate professor, Abhi was guided towards marine science. In the program, he worked with many students and scientists who helped him discover that marine science was the field for him.
